It actually started back in her teeny-bopper Disney days, when all Disney stars had to record songs as part of their contracts, if asked to by Disney.
2002 :
She covered 'I Can't Wait', and 'The Tiki Room' for the first ever DisneyMania compilation.
In 2002, without a record label, she released a Christmas album (which my 13 year old self found quite great by the way) called Santa Clause Lane. She collaborated with Lil Romeo and Christina Millian on two of the songs. The album went gold, and one song was used for The Santa Clause 2 soundtrack.
2003 :
She recorded Why Not for the Lizzie McGuire Movie, which was a huge success in Australia.
Finally, she decided that she would like to sing though she didn't know if she could and nothing about the process. BuenaVista found her great and so later that year, she released Metamorphosis, her first studio album. It became one of the top selling albums of the year in the US, and has sold 3.7 million copies in the US (triple platinum...almost quadruple) and 5 million worldwide. It reached #1 in two weeks. She embarked on her first tour, which was sold out. The singles released were So Yesterday, Come Clean, and Little Voice.

The album is said to have earned her $3 million.
2004 :
DisneyMania 2 was released, featuring a song with her sister, and a collaboration with all the teen stars of that time on the Circle of Life. Also, with her sister she covered 'Our Lips are Sealed' for her movie 'A Cinderella Story'.
Then came her co-writing. Hilary Duff was released on her birthday in 2004. It debuted at #2, selling 1.8 million copies in the US, and 2.5 million worldwide. The singles were Fly and Someones Watching Over me.
2005 :
Under pressure from her label to release a new album, Hilary and Joel Madden produced a Most Wanted album featuring two new songs, and the rest were Hilary's favourite songs from previous albums. It debuted at #1 but sold 1.3 million domestically and 2 million worldwide. The singles were Wake Up, and Beat of My Heart.
The same year, an Italian only album, 4Ever, was released, and is one of Italys best selling albums to date.
2006 :
As soundtrack to her new movie, Material Girls, she covered the song with her sister and Timbaland. There was no time to make a video, so it was not released as a single.
2007 :
She reinvented herself and took on a new genre, and poured out her heart and soul into Dignity in April. It debuted at #3. It has gone gold, and is almost platinum, having sold 840,000 copies. The singles were Play with Fire, With Love and Stranger. Pink and Will.I.Am co-wrote a song each.
The deluxe edition (which I got) :
Dignity was rereleased on the 25th of September, in CDVU+ format, which is the latest technology in the US. Her album was one of 5 chosen to be released in this format. It features two new songs, and the new single will be Reach Out and Touch Me. It also includes videos, tour videos and documents.
She started her first worldwide tour earlier in the year. Kicking off in Canada, shes headed to England, France, India, Bahrain, Italy, Japan, the USA and more and more venues are being announced everyday.
Can't wait for her next album! I wonder how long her contract is...hmmm..
