Thaksin has been kicked out of office.
Great... Just great.
I know I know... I am in no position to comment on the political scene in Thailand...
But Thaksin has been overthrown. Man....... :I the economy was getting better under his reign, even before all the unrest in Bangkok and beyond. Check out the Thai baht (trust me, I am well aware of this :p) back in 2002.. it used to be RM8=100 baht. Now, its RM 10.20=100 baht. Big jump, don't you think? Ok, so maybe the MYR IS going down... But, even when you compare the Thai Baht against USD, the value of TB is going up :I
I feel for the man, seriously. I guess it was inevitable la... Bangkok being the capital of Thailand, and unfortunately the capital of the protests. Read the Bangkok Post okay. Bangkok is the most populated city in the whole of Thailand. Ten people held a protest in Bangkok, the way the Bangkok Post wrote about it was like as though ten thousand people protested. The thing is, even if indeed ten thousand people protested, it'll only be one percent of the population of Bangkok. What more TEN people? The price of longan goes down, he gets blamed.... Er.. since when do Prime Ministers have a say in the price of fruits? Maybe economists in the agriculture field should be put to blame instead. Biased butts. Please don't get me started on the problems in Southern Thailand... where I happen to go to a lot as well =I
The thing about the whole Thaksin fiasco is there are two camps in the country now.. One supporting, and one obviously not supporting... And, the supporting group outnumbers the not-supporting group significantly, both by number of people and overall percentage of support. The only problem is, the polls have shown that the supporting-group comes mainly from northern Thailand and rural areas... and everyone knows the problem with undeveloped areas.. EDUCATION. Whereas Bangkok, being the hub of the nation... education is more developed here, and more importantly: so is the mass media. Easier to spread the propaganda, no? Also, in rural areas, the people have more difficulty voicing their opinions.. So in other words, it's pretty much the same as not saying anything at all. =I Maybe Thaksin should have looked into developing the 'getting your voice heard' thing more in these areas. Perhaps then he will be in a slightly better off position now.
What's up with Prime Minister screw ups in the South East Asian region of late?! =I
