The Drama Queen and her Woos

The time is now or never...

The moment you (or rather your parents) have been waiting for...

The life-changing, destiny-altering, fate-determining.....

UNIVERSITY APPLICATIONS!

Now, pardon me for being such a Drama Queen. I cannot help but exaggerate on this current phenomenon which has gripped the youthful homo sapiens of the A-Levels Department at college. Everywhere you turn, you hear the buzzword of the day - *drum roll please* - OXBRIDGE..

The excitement, the anxiety and the whole drama is just too hard to miss. It is a daunting experience for many or rather me in particular. See, I am one of those rather (un)fortunate people who came from a pure science background and bravely, I shall say, took the death-defying plunge into the unknown world of Humanities or let us just use the Malaysian stereotype "The Ding Dong Arts Stream" for A-Levels. Not that I suffer from clinical Shakespearetitis as a result of being in the Humanities but I guess for people like me, the university applications process proves to be a real head and heart ache.

Firstly, is the issue of the inevitable question of what course to choose. See, for you lovers of Science with a burning desire to be a doctor because you were so touched by the way that doctor in SJMC saved your grandma from contracting a life-threatening toothache, my word to you is - bless your soul because you got it easy. In your applications, you just need to confidentally write there "Medicine" or "Pharmacy".

But, for a person like me who loves nothing more than to spark controversy, travel around the world (for free, of course), dance with the Masai tribesmen, speak French like a native, drink as much as beer as I can at Oktoberfest in Germany and to make a toast at the Presidential Ball in the White House to all the American people who finally voted for the right President, it is hard to make a choice between courses. Maybe it is because of my fickleness or maybe it is just the lack of clarity, but to choose the right course is definitely not a cake walk for me.

Hence, I decided to keep my options open and went ahead and applied for the following courses :
1. University of Cambridge (Social and Political Sciences)
2. London School of Economics and Political Science
(Industrial Relations)
3. King’s College London (Business Management)
4. University of Warwick (International Business)
5. University of Exeter (International Relations)

And when I looked at the final product of my CV, I cannot help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Yes it is true I am totally clueless as to what I really want to do but now, at least I have a slight picture of what I will be doing.

So my two pence of the day would be - when you think things are in a mess, they will sort out by themselves and go by the doctrine of "everything happens for a reason". I might end up as an International Correspondent for CNN, a rival to Donald Trump or perhaps, the UN Secretary General (one day...). Things cannot be that bad, can they?

Damn, that reminds me. My personal statement. Oh well, I'll just keep it personal. ;)

Note = The Drama Queen here is Divya Chandran and I must take this opportunity to thank The Material Man a.k.a Ruwan Shaun for asking me to be a guest blogger. (I am really sorry, I am not much of a writer). It has been a real pleasure (and pressure) writing here. The views expressed in the above labyrinth of words are mine and mine alone and any hard feelings caused are highly-recommended to be discarded at once because I frankly wouldn't give two hoots about it. Thanks once again and all the best for everything.
