War, Inc. is a dark political satire on the Iraq which Cusack also wrote and produced. A working title of the film was Brand Hauser: Stuff Happens. War, Inc. was filmed in Bulgaria beginning in late October 2006 and is in post-production with an expected release date mid-to-late 2007. Hilary said in her blog that it's likely for the film to premiere at the Toronto film festival in September. Co-stars include Sir Ben Kingsley, Marisa Tomei and Cusack's sister Joan.
War Inc. is set in the future, when the desert country of Turagistan is torn by a riot after a private corporation, owned by the former US president, has taken over the whole state. John plays the role of a hitman, who suppresses his emotions by gobbling down on hot sauce and is hired by the corporation’s head to kill the CEO of their competitors. His cover is that he's producing a large trade show that includes a wedding between a young crazy, tacky, provocative Central Asian pop star named Yonica (played by Hil) and the son of an arms dealer, but complications ensue when he falls in love with Marrisa Tomeis character, a reporter whos trying to find out the real truth behind the war.
John wrote the part of Yonica with Hilary in mind. Hilary first refused the part because she didnt want to play the stereotypical pop-star, but then she read the script and she realised she'll even be able to 'kill' someone with a gun - a far departure for her regular roles. And it gave her the opportunity to go back to her black hair =p
Hilary's performance has been getting rave reviews all around, and people are saying that shes finally moving out of her teen-queen roles. She said 'I’ve had such a good experience working on the film. I am so happy and I’m in awe of how it is coming together. I get to play a character who’s nothing like me. I took a risk with this character and for the first time, I feel that my acting has grown which has allowed me to make outlandish choices onscreen.'
